Salt & Straw Opened at DIsney Springs This Morning!

Is it ever too early for gourmet ice cream? Salt & Straw opened TODAY in Disney Springs and MickeyBlog was there!

Salt & Straw developed a cult following on the west coast, including a location Downtown Disney at Disneyland Resort. We are beyond excited to welcome you to Orlando!

With handmade, small batch ice cream, innovative flavors and a focus on community, cousin creators Kim and Tyler Malek have kept the brand’s focus on “bringing people together over a scoop”.

We were lucky to receive an invitation to this morning’s ribbon cutting ceremony and we happily accepted, probably “the most delicious decision” we’ll make today!

Salt & Straw’s newest location is located near Splitsville Luxury Lanes and AMC Theaters on Disney Springs’ West Side. You can see the proximity to the theater, right behind this giant ice cream cone!

Store front design

This bold new signage was created in partnership with award-winning partner and designer, Osmose Design. The 3D mural-as-sign is sure to become an iconic sight at Disney Springs, featuring a larger than life hand holding a waffle cone full of ice cream, with a subtle waffle textured background behind.

There’s colorful red and pink-hued ribbons twisting through, giving off the feel of swirling sugary flavors. It’s really a fun addition to the Springs landscape!

Grand Opening Chat With the Founders

Co-Founders Kim and Tyler Malek were on hand for questions, photos and interviews. When asked about the launch of the new location, Tyler responded with excitement!

“It’s Disney World! We opened at Disneyland at Downtown Disney about three years ago and ever since then this has been, like the pinnacle, and we are so honored…”

Malek went on to explain that Salt & Straw offers a new menu the first Friday of every month, priding themselves on telling “amazing stories through ice cream”. The rotating menus feature signature storytelling ranging from student invented, creative kid-friendly menus to Thanksgiving themed menus for the whole month of November.

What really sets this scoop shop apart is the idea that getting ice cream shouldn’t just be a treat, it should be an experience. You are welcome to taste as many flavors as you’d like, hopefully with an appreciation for the artisan ingredients and thoughtfulness that goes into each scoop.

When asked, “Why Disney Springs?” the co-founder noted the area’s ability to transport guests to a different world.

“We really appreciate that, how much care goes into every thing. Keeping everything clean, keeping everything high end…There’s something so iconic about that. We think our ice cream and our level of service fits in so perfectly.”

Storytelling and attention to quality details…sounds like a great Disney fit to us!

Ribbon cutting ceremony

After interviews, the co-founders Malek were introduced by Jim Greene, General Manager of Food and Beverage Business Relations at Disney Springs, to cut the official ribbon.

Ice cream!

Shortly after, the first scoop was served! Salt & Straw is giving today’s first 100 customers a free scoop this morning! The first 100 people in line were given a silver spoon to present and claim their scoop.

The line moved inside where we can see the currently monthly menu (part of the Student Inventors series) in addition to the classic full-time flavors.

There’s also pints of delicious Salt & Straw ice cream to go! This is a great option for a family to share on a hot summer day!

Our Mickey Blogger Jarod chose a double chocolate scoop this morning.
