Walt Disney World Wait Times for Third Week of June 2022

Okay, we’ve talked a lot about the impending school summer vacations and how they’ll impact Walt Disney World crowds.

We’re not quite to peak season yet, as that timeframe usually occurs at the start of July.

However, we should start tracking a slight uptick in crowds soon, possibly even in this week’s Walt Disney World wait times. Did we? Let’s find out!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

So, I peeked ahead a bit, and I know that we’ll find some conflicting data at Animal Kingdom.

AnimalKingdom

Pandora – The World of Avatar features two E-ticket attractions, both of which come with the longest lines at the park.

Avatar Flight of Passage wait times actually decreased by 11 minutes this week. Guests waited 109 minutes this time after requiring 120 minutes previously.

Conversely, Na’vi River Journey increased a bit. People stood in line for an average of 84 minutes. That’s just two minutes more, but it’s enough to create some confusion.

Let’s examine all the other park wait times to decide whether crowds were up or down overall:

  • Kilimanjaro Safaris – 60 minutes, down 10
  • Kali River Rapids – 55 minutes, up 1
  • Expedition Everest – 39 minutes, down 1
  • DINOSAUR – 38 minutes, no change
  • It’s Tough to Be a Bug! – 17 minutes, up 1
  • Tricera Top Spin – 11 minutes, down 5

I should mention that TriceraTop Spin has undergone routine maintenance this week. So, its data is less than half-complete. As such, I’m disregarding it.

Still, the overall picture of Animal Kingdom suggests that crowds were generally down ever so slightly.

To wit, guests waited an average of 53 minutes this week, a one-minute drop from last time. Most of that difference does come from Avatar Flight of Passage.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

I’m a bit surprised to report that the news plays out similarly at Hollywood Studios.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance averaged a wait of 125 minutes, a drop of ten minutes from last time. We’re already trending the right way.

Meanwhile, second place continues to be the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Guests spent an average of 106 minutes in line this week, a drop of six minutes.

I’ve seen some questions about why Tower of Terror wait times are so high right now. The answer is that it’s not currently operating all its elevator shafts.

Whenever some of them receive maintenance, the line time increases dramatically.

Here are the other attractions at Hollywood Studios:

  • Slinky Dog Dash – 90 minutes, down 5
  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run – 75 minutes, down 18 (!)
  • Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith – 68 minutes, down 2
  • Toy story mania! – 65 minutes, no change
  • Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway – 64 minutes, no change
  • Red Carpet Dreams – 47 minutes, down 6
  • Alien Swirling Saucers – 45 minutes, down 13
  • Meet Sulley at Walt Disney Presents… — 43 minutes, down 2
  • Celebrity Spotlight – 30 minutes, down 1
  • Star Tours – The Adventures Continue – 30 minutes, no change
  • Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy – 15 minutes, down 3
  • Muppet*Vision 3D – 10 minutes, no change

Overall, Hollywood Studios attractions averaged a wait of 53 minutes, a drop of four minutes from last time.

The significant trendline here is that the waits haven’t gone up for the attractions toward the bottom of the list.

When that happens, the parks aren’t experiencing overflow traffic. Instead, everything is working as park planners intend.

EPCOT

Not counting Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, the top two attractions at EPCOT remain Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.

In fact, we had a tie this week. Both attractions averaged waits of 80 minutes. For Ratatouille, that’s a decrease of five minutes.

Meanwhile, Frozen Ever After only went down by three minutes. So that smaller drop caused it to catch up with Remy.

Here are the other attractions at EPCOT:

  • Test track – 70 minutes, down 2
  • Soarin’ Around the World – 60 minutes, up to 5

  • Royal Sommerhus – 27 minutes, down 4

Overall, EPCOT attractions required a wait of 39 minutes, a modest increase of one minute from last time. And that’s because of rounding up this time vs. rounding down last time.

So, Disney is doing a solid job in managing wait times thus for this summer.
