You’re Sick at Walt Disney World. Now What?

You’ve spent months planning your trip to Disney World, and during your visit, the unexpected happens. Someone gets sick, and you’re left wondering — now what?!

Is your whole trip ruined? What are your options? Are there any options? Don’t worry, because there are!

It really depends on your individual situation, but if you want to be prepared just in case, here’s everything you need to know in case you find yourself sick.

Bring Your Insurance Card

You might consider this one a no-brainer, but don’t forget your insurance card! Even if everyone is healthy before your trip, you never know what might happen during your visit. In addition to all your other Disney Park bag essentials, make sure you include your insurance card.

Don’t forget your essentials!

No one plans to get sick, but it can happen to anyone, even if you’re on vacation, and at least bringing your insurance card won’t take up any extra room in your bag!

Here’s everything you want to pack in your Disney park bag!

COVID Testing Centers

Whether you have COVID symptoms or need a negative test before you can travel home, there are two COVID testing centers available at Orlando International Airport. You can walk into either location or schedule an appointment if that works better for you.

Don’t want to have to go to the airport? There are a number of testing sites in the Central Florida area, close to Disney World. They might not be within walking distance of your hotel, but some of them are close enough that a short drive is all it takes.

These testing sites have different tests available, including rapid antigen and PCR tests, so you might want to double check which tests are available and which tests you need before visiting one of these sites.

First Aid Center

First Aid Centers are located in all four Disney Parks at Disney World, and there you can find nurses who can provide you with over-the-counter medications, bandages, and other minor medical assistance needs.

All you have to do is sign in on the First Aid Center log, and a nurse will assist you with getting the proper dosage for whatever over-the-counter medication you’re looking for. You can also purchase larger quantities of select over-the-counter medications, which we are about to get into!

Over the counter medications

At a Disney World First Aid Center, you can obtain a single dosage of some over-the-counter medications like Tylenol, but you also have the option to purchase some medications too. Typical offerings include allergy and pain medications, eye drops, contact lens solution, sunscreen, lip balm, and more.

These types of first aid meds are also usually available in your hotel and even in some stores around Disney Parks, where you might find them behind the counter. You might not need to go anywhere else to get what you’re looking for!

Prescription Delivery

Did you know that you can get a prescription delivered to your Disney World hotel? Turner Drugs provides deliveries for prescriptions (for a fee), whether you forgot your prescription, have one called in from your doctor, or have a new prescription to fill during your visit.

Turner Drugs also delivers to First Aid Centers in Disney Parks, where you can drop off your prescription and pick it up upon delivery. If you’re feeling okay and you’re not contagious, this is a super convenient way to avoid sitting around your hotel room waiting for a delivery!

Keep in mind that Turner Drugs does not take insurance, but they will provide you with an itemized receipt and a universal claim form that you can file with your insurance company at a later time. That likely means you’ll be paying more for your medication, along with a delivery fee.

AdventHealth, which we’ll be talking about next, also provides prescription delivery to either your pharmacy or your Disney World hotel, and you can make arrangements by calling 407-939-7480.

Advent Health Services

Disney World has partnered with AdventHealth to help take care of mostly non-urgent medical needs, and services include access to healthcare providers through the AdventHealth App. For minor ailments and issues, you can even schedule video visits.

Like Turner Drugs, AdventHealth may not work with your insurance provider, so keep in mind if you decide to use these services you may be paying out of pocket. You can call AdventHealth at 407-939-7480 between 7AM to 11PM daily, or contact AdventHealth online outside of those hours.

Locate Urgent Cares

So what happens if you need to see a doctor? AdventHealth Centra Care Urgent Care is open 24/7, and it’s conveniently located not far from Disney World in Lake Buena Vista. If you don’t have transportation, Disney World hotel guests can receive complimentary transportation to the clinic, which can be arranged through a front desk Cast Member or First Aid, or by calling AdventHealth at 407-939-7480.

But you don’t HAVE to visit the AdventHealth Centra Care Urgent Care. You can also visit any one of the nearby urgent cares or hospitals in the Central Florida area and may even be able to see a doctor via virtual care. Depending on your health insurance, it might be worth exploring which options you have.

deliveries

If you’re in need of supplies that you can’t find at your Disney World hotel, like Pediasure or other specific needs, you can also use delivery services like Instacart, Shipt, Amazon Prime Now, and more. With delivery, it’s a good idea to double check with your resort on their policies regarding fees for receiving or holding packages.

Similarly, some delivery services require you to be there to receive your items, so you might have to rearrange your schedule a bit to be available for your package. But it can be a convenient option if you don’t have the ability or time to drive to a store!

Here’s how package delivery is changing at some Disney World hotels!

rest

When all else fails, sometimes the best thing to do is, well, rest! Drink lots of water and take some time in your hotel room to give your body a chance to recover. Is it the most fun thing to do on vacation? No, but it can mean getting back into the parks sooner!
